NEDO and four Japanese companies, Takasago Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd., Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd., Ohtsuka Ceramics Inc., and Morimatsu Industry Co., Ltd., have jointly established a mass production technology for an improved high-performance thermal storage material based on a developed material by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) called "HAS-Clay" that can use low-temperature waste heat of 100°C or less. In addition, NEDO and the partner companies, along with Hino Motors, Ltd., have jointly developed a portable-type compact thermal energy storage system capable of storing more than twice as much heat as conventional systems utilizing the newly developed thermal storage material.
Starting today, a practical application Verification test for the offline heat transportation between factories of Hino Motors, Ltd., will be launched, while the four partner companies will aim to commercialize heat utilization systems for air conditioning/dehumidification/heating, hot water supply, drying processes, and other purposes, based on the findings obtained from this test.
