NEDO Developed a Flexible Sensor Capable of High-Sensitivity Measurement of Bridge Deformation
- Enabling the monitoring of deteriorating conditions simply by pasting it onto the bridge surface -

As part of a NEDO project, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. have developed a flexible surface pattern sensor that can measure the distribution of strain across bridges with high sensitivity.

In addition to being affordable, having a low power consumption, and exhibiting high durability, this sensor enables the monitoring of bridge deformation with easy installation by pasting it on surface of the bridge structure.

From April 2017, this sensor will be installed on a highway bridge to conduct a demonstration test for use in the monitoring of repaired and reinforced bridges, in addition to measuring strain distribution and evaluating the sensor's outdoor durability.
