NEDO is launching a new project to develop an innovative ironmaking process involving ferro-coke, which is made from thermal coal and low-grade iron ore. The project is expected to have an effect on reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in iron production.
The aim of this project is to establish the technology for producing ferro-coke. The construction of a medium-scale plant producing 300 t/day of ferro-coke is planned, with the goal of reducing energy consumption in the ironmaking process by 10% to be achieved by 2022.
