NEDO's Newly-Developed Concrete Inspection Support System Becomes Available for Public on Trial Basis
– Work time could be reduced to one-tenth of current effort with high-precision system that utilizes AI –

As part of a NEDO project, Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), and Tohoku University have developed an AI system that can detect cracks in concrete of 0.2 mm or greater in width with high precision, detecting 80% or more of cracks even in difficult conditions, such as dirt or scratches on the surface of the concrete. NEDO will aim to reduce work time to just one-tenth of the conventional amount, from 300 minutes to 30 minutes, by establishing a support system for the crack-detection technology that automates inspection and recording by using an AI system.

From now until the end of FY2018 (planned), the crack inspection support system will be available for free on its website for test use by inspection businesses, with a goal of verifying the system's detection accuracy and work efficiency.
