New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)
As part of its "Green Telecom Tower Project in India," NEDO has achieved an 83% reduction in diesel fuel consumption and a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions. NEDO has been working on the project to reduce diesel fuel consumption of backup diesel generators at telecom tower sites by installing PV cells and a lithium-ion battery controlled by an energy management system (EMS). A special white paint (a photo catalyst coat) which helps cool down buildings is also applied to some shelters located at telecom tower sites. Going forward, NEDO will continue its contributions to the promotion of conserving energy and reducing environmental burden by widely disseminating the results within India.
