NEDO Selects Five Research Projects to Lower Cost of Offshore Wind Power Generation
– Will aim to lower capital and operational expenditures with advanced construction technology –

To promote expanded adoption of offshore wind power generation in Japan, NEDO has selected five research projects centered on technology for cutting construction costs of offshore wind power generation systems.
In these projects, NEDO will research the cost-cutting effects of the following technologies: construction technology for fundamental structures that can be optimized for the geographical features of the seafloor and terrain of Japan; offshore construction technology that can shorten the time necessary for construction; and maintenance of systems affected by these technologies. Additionally, it will evaluate the technological validity of these technologies by conducting water tank tests and simulations.
Through these efforts, NEDO will attempt to realize advanced cost-cutting construction technologies, as well as to lower capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenditures (OPEX), which together form power generation costs.
