NEDO Conducts World's First Technology Demonstration for Hydrogen-fueled Cogeneration System in Urban Areas
– Built a demonstration plant on Kobe Port Island –

December 11, 2017
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)
Obayashi Corporation
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

As part of a NEDO project, Obayashi Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. will conduct a demonstration of the world's first urban hydrogen-fueled cogeneration system, which supplies both heat and electricity for nearby public facilities. NEDO and its partners built the demonstration plant on Kobe Port Island on December 10 in order to demonstrate the safety and operability of the system.

In this technology demonstration, the plant will supply heat and electricity from its hydrogen-fueled 1 MW gas turbine generator (hydrogen cogeneration system). The heat and electricity will be sent to four nearby facilities, including a hospital. The test will demonstrate the operation of an optimum energy management system within communities.
