October 10, 2014
On October 8 in Tokyo, NEDO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the international conference Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) to discuss measures for promoting innovation in energy and environmental technology to solve the problem of global warming.
ICEF is a sort of "World Economic Forum (Davos Conference)" in the energy and environmental field, where the world's top-level scientists, policymakers and businesspeople can come together to solve the global warming problem by accelerating innovation in the fields of energy and the environment. The forum was proposed by Prime Minister Abe, and will be held in Japan starting this year.
Roughly 780 people participated in the recent conference. There were about 50 speakers, including many cabinet ministers and prominent figures from various fields. From NEDO, Dr. Tomoji Kawai, Executive Director of the Technology Strategy Center, spoke at a working group on the "Role of Public Sector for RDD&D (Research, Development, Demonstration, Deployment)."
