NEDO and the National Laboratory for Energy and Geology (LNEG) of Portugal Concludes MOU for Smart Community Demonstration Project
July 23, 2015
NEDO and the National Laboratory for Energy and Geology (LNEG) of Portugal have reached an agreement to jointly promote an automated demand response demonstration project in Portugal, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project has been concluded. The MOU was signed on July 22, 2015, by Dr. Hiroshi Kuniyoshi, NEDO’s Executive Director, and Dr. Teresa Ponce de Leão, President of LNEG, in the presence of Mr. Hiroshi Azuma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Portugal, and H.E. Mr. Artur Trindade, Portuguese Secretary of State for Energy.
As Portugal is one of the leading countries for the mass introduction of renewable energy within Europe, automated demand response will allow for more reliable management of power supply and demand compared to manual demand response while addressing the increasing need for stabilization of power supply and demand that accompanies the mass introduction of renewable energy.
