NEDO Held the "Smart Community Summit 2016"

On June 15 and 16, NEDO and the Japan Smart Community Alliance (JSCA) held the "Smart Community Summit 2016" at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center).
In the opening speech, NEDO Chairman Kazuo Furukawa greeted attendees with an overview of the 21st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) in Paris and the G7 Japan 2016 Ise-Shima Summit followed by an introduction of the situation concerning smart communities and NEDO's demonstration projects in each region around the world. He also encouraged an active discussion regarding the transformation of utility business models and smart communities.
At the summit, experts on the power industry and technology from Japan and overseas presented an outlook on challenges and solutions related to the transformation of utility business models through presentations and a panel discussion while presenting cases of advanced smart community demonstration projects conducted inside and outside Japan.
NEDO also participated in the "Smart Community Japan 2016" exhibition that was held simultaneously. At the exhibition booth, NEDO showcased 12 international smart community demonstration projects conducted across Europe, North America, and Asia, utilizing touch panel displays and examples of actual equipment used in the projects to allow the public to explore NEDO's work.
