NEDO Co-hosts the "Japan-U.S. Digital Innovation Hub Summit

On June 28 and 29, 2018, NEDO co-hosted the "Japan-U.S. Digital Innovation Hub Summit" in cooperation with the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in Washington D.C. The summit was organized by universities that are members of the Japan-U.S. Digital Innovation Hub (chief organizer from Japan: University of Tsukuba; chief organizer from the U.S.: Arizona State University

This summit was held to promote innovation in the digital science field and to establish a platform (hub) for promoting cooperation between Japanese and American universities. Stakeholders from industry, academia, and government engaged in lively discussions at the summit, with representatives of Japanese and American universities placing particular emphasis on research, development, and education in the digital field.

Distinguished guests such as the following gave lectures on cooperation between the two countries with regard to digital innovation: Dr. E. William Colglazier, Senior Scholar at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and former Science and Technology Adviser to the U.S. Secretary of State; and Minister Takehiro Shimada. On June 29, NEDO President Mr. Akihiko Miyamoto also delivered a lecture on the need for Japan-U.S. cooperation in the digital field and joint research and development activities between the two countries in the area of artificial intelligence.

On June 28, a panel discussion called "Research Strategies for Research and Development Corporations" was presented by NEDO Executive Director Dr. Tomoji Kawai to address possible applications for digital technologies and the importance of human resource development for digital technologies. The summit was attended by about 70 participants.
