NEDO Co-hosted the R&D of Artificial Neural Network System for Inference (ANNI) Workshop

November 13, 2018

On November 12, NEDO co-hosted a workshop on "R&D of Artificial Neural Network System for Inference (ANNI) Promoting Ultra High-speed / Low-power-consumption Big Data Processing" at Waseda University jointly together with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).

This is a project to perform integrated research and development on software and hardware for the low-power-consumption artificial neural network system for inference that enables AI processing on the user equipment side.

The NEDO Internet of Things Promotion Department gave the following address at the start of the workshop: "We have produced results at the level of underlying technologies. We are now at the stage where the pathway to practical use is starting to become visible. Next, cooperation with specialists from different areas of business is important for societal implementation. We would like to hear the opinions of the participants in this workshop. We would also like your participation in field tests. We would then like to maximize our results by producing a synergy effect through sharing and cooperation of the research and development results that includes user companies." In addition, there were invited speeches from universities and private companies prompting IoT sensor and AI implementation to all things around us. Following on from that, there was a report on the results of this research and development and then seven demo exhibitions of related technologies.

There were approximately 100 participants at this workshop. Various discussions were held on the vision of personalized services increasing in sophistication in real-time and attempts to create diverse opportunities for everyone to use AI.
