Ceremony Held to Mark the Start of the Operations of Three Wind Turbine Generators

November 9, 2018

Three cold-resistant wind turbine generators have started operations for a NEDO demonstration project taking place in the Russian Far East. NEDO, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Takaoka Toko Co., Ltd. and Komaihaltec Inc. have carried out the demonstration project in cooperation with the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) of the Russian Federation and PJSC RusHydro. On November 7, NEDO organized a ceremony in Yakutsk, capital of the Sakha Republic, to mark the start of wind turbine generator operations.

This demonstration project aims to build a polar microgrid system that includes an energy management system to collectively control electricity provided by the newly-installed turbines, the existing generators and storage batteries in Tiksi City, a municipality with an islanding electric grid located north of the Arctic Circle in the Sakha Republic of Russia, in pursuit of securing stable energy supplies to the region. Through the demonstration project, the system's ability to provide low-cost and stable energy supplies to frigid regions will be verified.

The ceremony was attended by many attendees including Takashi Omote, NEDO Executive Director, Masanori Fukushima, Consul-General of Japan, Aisen Nikolaev, Head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and Nikolay Shulginov, Chairman of the Board and General Director of PJSC RusHydro.
