NEDO Participates in COP24 Conference

December 14, 2018

From December 10-12, 2018, NEDO hosted three side events at the COP24 conference held in Katowice, Poland.

At its official side event and at another side event held at the Japan Pavilion, a roadmap for "Direct Air Capture of Carbon Dioxide " (a technology which allows the direct recovery of CO2 from atmospheric air) was presented, which was an outcome from the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF). The presentation was followed by wide-ranging discussions among experts and audience members from many different countries. Discussion topics included consideration of what kind of innovations are needed to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions.

During another side event at the Japan Pavilion entitled "Challenge Toward the Net Zero Emission Achievement of Innovative Initiatives for Climate Technologies," NEDO presented its initiatives on hydrogen technologies, as well as its projects for building a smart community in Poland and boosting energy saving efforts in developing countries. Discussion also took place at this event regarding possible approaches toward achieving net-zero emissions. In cooperation with partner governments and companies, NEDO projects for building smart communities were also explained at the Germany Pavilion and Poland Pavilion.

In addition, NEDO Executive Director Takashi Omote met with Mr. Xie Zhenhua, China's Special Representative on Climate Change Affairs, and exchanged views with regard to further deepening cooperation.
