"Award for Academic Startups 2019" Presentation Ceremony Held in Tokyo

September 9, 2019

On August 29, 2019, NEDO and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) held the "Award for Academic Startups 2019" presentation ceremony at Tokyo Big Sight.

The goal of the award is to further promote the development of startups which utilize the results of university-based research and development efforts and encourage ambitious efforts by already existing startups. The award also aims to promote greater support for academic startups by universities and companies.

A total of 44 award nominations were submitted and then reviewed by a selection board composed of external experts. Ultimately, six academic startups as well as their academic and corporate sponsors were selected to receive the award. The awards ceremony was held at the site of Innovation Japan 2019, where panels demonstrating award-winning projects were exhibited.

Also, on August 30, the six award winners were invited to an event called "JOIC Presents NEDO/JST Dream Pitch & Panel" which took place at the main seminar venue. At this event, lively pitch presentations and panel discussions were held to discuss the secrets of success for academic startups and important points for such startups to consider when collaborating with companies.
