NEDO Holds Energy System Seminar 2019 with Denmark Embassy of Japan

On October 8, 2019, NEDO, the Royal Embassy of Denmark in Japan, Ministry of Higher Education and Science Denmark and the Japan Smart Community Alliance held a seminar titled“Energy System for Large-scale Renewable Energy Integration -Future of Grid Operation, Heat Utilization and VPP/V2G and Lessons to Learn from Denmark-”in Tokyo.

During the seminar, speakers from Energinet, Denmark’s national transmission system operator, and universities gave presentations on grid operation in the age of large-scale introduction of renewable energy, a concept of sector coupling, Heat Roadmap Europe toward the decarbonization of heating and cooling sector (incl. water heating) in Europe and the Danish Parker and ACES projects, the world's first V2G (Vehicle to Grid) project succeeded in commercialization. Speakers from Japan gave presentations on current status of energy system in Japan and NEDO’s activities, current trends of industrial high temperature heat pump, and VPP/V2G demonstration projects carried out by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

Through the presentations and the panel discussion, the seminar provided a valuable opportunity for over 100 participants to exchange views on the activities and challenges of both Japan and Denmark.
