英文要約The effects of iron on the degradation of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by Cycloclasticus in the oil-contaminated marine environments Cycloclasticus is a cosmopolitan marine bacterium that uses PAHs containing oils as its exclusive source of carbon and energy. Although barely detectable in unpolluted environments, Cycloclasticus becomes a dominant microbe in seawater containing PAHs. Therefore Cycloclasticus is useful for degradation of PAHs in oil contaminated marine environments. The aim of this project is development of regulatory methods for behavior and PAHs degradation activities of Cycloclasticus in marine bacterial consortia to apply for bioremediation. We recently found that Cycloclasticus has a transporting system for scavenging of minerals. It is generally understood that the scavenging for minerals such as iron in marine environment is essential to became predominant in bacterial consortia. In addition, many enzymes to catalyze PAHs required iron. In this study, we analyzed the effects of iron on the PAHs degradation by Cycloclasticus. We examined effects of iron on the growth and degradation of Cycloclasticus in the presence of PAHs. When Fe3+ was added to seawater based medium as iron source Cycloclasticus grew well with PAHs degradation. Whereas Cycloclasticus showed poor growth when Fe2+ was added. To detect proteins related for iron uptake, we performed proteomic analysis. The results showed that Feo A and B which are transporting system for iron uptake were detected in the presence of Fe3+ whereas they were not detected in the presence of Fe2+. These results suggested that Feo A and B might be related to the growth and degradation of PAHs of Cycloclasticus.
