英文要約Title: Fuel Cell Cutting-Edge Scientific Research Project (1) Preparation of Pt nanoparticles with controlled sizes, shapes, and arrangements: In order to elucidate mechanisms of electro-catalysts for fuel cells in cooperation with FC-Cubic, precisely structure-controlled Pt nanoparticles are prepared as models of catalysts. We have succeeded to prepare Pt-nanocube with sizes of 2.5-10.2 nm by the reduction of Pt ion with hydrogen in the presence of organic protective agents and NaI after systematic investigation of various reaction conditions, such as reduction period, temperature, amounts of additives etc. Pt-nanocube was fixed on carbon fiber-electrode as isolated form to get precise and reliable information on mechanisms of electro-catalysis. Characteristics of carbon fiber electrodes have been characterized by using Dual Electrochemical Analyzer System purchased by this project. It should be mentioned that these experiments were carried out together with the staff of FC-cubic. We have also prepared 5 nm tetrahedral Pt nanoparticles with rather high selectivity of 60% by hydrogen reduction of Pt ion in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) sodium (PAA). Pt nanoparticles with organic protective agents with different sizes were self-assembled with different inter-particle distances; the distances were controlled by kinds of protective agents. We succeeded to convert shape of Au nanoparticled protected by discotic-liquid crystalline molecule under UV irradiation. This novel approach may open new way to control shape of nanoparticles. (2) Development of preparation methods of electrode samples to characterize electrode catalysis for fuel cells: We have developed stable and reliable fixation methods of structure- and arrangement- controlled Pt nanoparticles for electrochemical or spectrometric analyses. Interaction of PAA used as protective agents with Pt nanoparticles have been characterized by using FT-IR equipped with ATR (Attenuated Total Reflectance) purchased by this project. Significant differences in FT-IR spectra of adsorbed PAA have been observed on different Pt samples; Pt-nanocube and Pt-nanowire. Such analyses may provide useful information during development of the effective method to remove protective agent when it plays as catalyst poison. Thin film composed of arranged Pt particles with controlled inter-particle distance prepared by LB method was successfully transferred and fixed on carbon electrode. Characteristics of the electrodes with Pt nanoparticles are characterized by using Dual Electrochemical Analyzer System purchased by this project.
