The objective of "The Demonstration Study on Power Supply System (PV+BESS) in Malaysia that utilizes Photovoltaic Generation as much as possible" is to demonstrate and develop “High Quality Power Supply PV+BESS System” while considering the technical problems of small-scale power grid system and the needs of high quality power supply in the Asian region. The system should have the following functions: 1) Maximum utilization of Photovoltaic Generation (PV) whose characteristic is natural fluctuation in power generation 2) Increase the quality of power supply utilizing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) 3) Improvement of economical efficiency utilizing the function of Demand Side Management. In FY 2008, the following works were conducted: 1) manufacturing and testing the main system components, such as the PV system, the BESS, the phase-advanced capacitors and the equipment for measurement, monitoring and control, in Japanese factory. 2) Sea transportation of PV modules from Japan to Malaysia. 3) Construction works in the project site, Power Cable Malaysia (PCM), including steel structures for PV panel, PV panel installation, a new two-story building construction, underground piping and lighting protection. 4) Application for construction approval and tax exemption to local authorities. Also, we conducted hearing investigations at relevant organizations to obtain a PV generation license. 5) Training for Malaysian counterpart, consisting of factory visit to Japanese PV module, battery and system manufactures, and lecture about PV technologies and high quality power supplying system.
