英文要約Title:Verification Tests and Results Survey for Biomass and Other Untapped Energy. The Verification Test Project for Cryogenic Energy Use of Natural Snow melt from the snow pile Utilizing the Natural Topographical Feature:FY 2008 Annual Report
The objective of this project is to verify the utilization of as yet untapped usable regional snow as cryogenic energy. We tried to conserve the snow, which has been removed from the city and its vicinity area and accumulated at the snow dumping site during winter, until summer, in order to use cold water as a coolant for the air-conditioner in the Senior Citizen Welfare Center, as well as children's community house. The snowmelt ran down through the U-shaped concrete channel installed along down slope and was used as coolant water at the heat exchange device. Results:(a)Term of verification test was from July 1 to August 31 The snow was accumulated and piled up in the snow dumping site. The snowmelt was guided to the neighboring facility via infiltration gallery and U-shaped concrete channel. Snowmelt was used as a coolant in the heat exchange device in the facility. The cold air, produced by heat-exchange with snowmelt, was blown into the facility. The altitudinal gradient and the distance between the snow dumping site and the facility are six meters and 260 meters, respectively. The frame was constructed on the snow mound by using bamboo and polyvinyl-chloride pipes. Then, as thermal insulation, plastic bags filled with fragments of paper were put among the frame. The 44 pieces of plastic sheet, of which size is 5.4mx7.2m, were set so as to cover a snow mound. Fishing net was placed on plastic sheets as windshield net. Cloth bags in which coal ash was filled were placed on plastic sheet. The snow mound was conserved until the end date of this verification tests. Furthermore, snow mound existed until November. Snowmelt seeped out from snow mound flows via infiltration gallery and U-shaped concrete channel, and was once collected at the catch pit. Water temperature at the catch pit adjacent to the facility was between 2 and 11.8 degrees. Cold energy stored in snowmelt was converted into cool air via the heat exchange device. Air temperature blown from the air handling unit was between 12.7 to 26.8 degrees during test verification period. Exhausted water was reused for the Fan coil unit, and was re-circulated into cooling water mat placed on the floor. This verification test does not require any new technologies and is a trial to examine a possibility of the system of which existing technologies are combined. The verification test of FY2008 suggests that air conditioning is possible until 31 August if thermal insulations are correctly installed on the snow mound. In addition, the snow mound survived two months after the last day of the verification test period.
