(1)Development of electrode material
Based on the specification of developed cell at last year, to improve performance
(input/output characteristics and energy density), to lower cost and to enhance safety
of the cells, cathode material, anode material and electrolyte is optimized by elemental
experiment.
(1-2)Cell parts structure design
Study and evaluation of the structures of the cell parts have been carried out
in order to improve the gas tight, the torque tight, and the contact resistance of cell
and lower the cost of that.
(2)Test of cell and module battery(4 cells in series)
According to above consideration, improved cell was made for trial purposes and evaluated.
The cell has high energy density (123Wh/kg@1C) and low internal resistance (half ratio in
the past). And there was no explosion and no ignition confirmed by various safety test
(including overcharge and overdischarge).
(2-2)Development of cell manufacturing technologies
Several manufacturing equipments have been studied and installed. And by the use of them
we have studied and tried to establish the technologies for the future mass production
of cells.
(3)Design of unit battery and its control unit
The design production in the monitoring circuit for 100kWh class unit battery was done,
and the normal performance under a real unit was confirmed.
Cell monitoring unit (CMU) is installed in one module battery,
and the voltage of the cell and the temperature of the cell are observed.
Information for the battery of 28 module series is consolidated in one battery management unit(BMU).
The electrical charge and discharge device for 100kWh class unit battery was produced.
100kW electrical charge and discharge was confirmed.
The capacity of the unit battery also confirmed it had the ability of 100 kWh class.
