図1 にガスアトマイズ法で作製したFe76Si9B10P5 合金粉末をふるいで63mm 以下に分級したものの走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)写真を示す。図から大部分の粒子が真球状であり、ガスアトマイズ過程に液体状態で粉砕されそのまま凝固していることがわかる。また、粒子表面には結晶化時の凝固収縮で発生するしわ模様も見られない。
図2 にガスアトマイズ法で作製したFe76Si9B10P5 合金粉末と、SPS 法により負荷応力600MPa 下の各温度で焼結した直径15mm、厚さ3mm のFe76Si9B10P5 合金リング状バルクのX線回折図形を示す。ガスアトマイズ法によって作製したFe76Si9B10P5 合金粉末は、ガラス構造特有のハローパターンのみを示すことから、粒子径63μm 以下ではガラス単相を形成することがわかる
英文要約Title: The NEDO Special Course for Metallic Glass Research and Promotion (FY2008-FY2011) FY2009 Annual Report
1) Basic Study
In this NEDO special course, basic research has been conducted to develop a new Fe-based and Ni-based metallic glasses having high glass formability and excellent properties such as good soft-magnetic properties and fatigue resistance.
Preparation of a soft magnetic Fe76Si9B10P5 glassy bulk material has been carried out by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique below the glass transition temperature. The glassy powders were consolidated into bulk forms with relative densities above 98.7% through sintering them at 740K under a pressure of 600 MPa while the samples still keep a glassy state. These as-sintered samples with a diameter of 15mm exhibited excellent soft magnetic characteristics, which is as good as that of the cast samples with a size of 2.5 mm.
2) Lectures for graduate students
The lecture for the graduate students of Tohoku University was organized by the NEDO special course in August 20-21, 2009. The lecture was also open to the researchers and everyone who were interested in metallic glass.
Moreover, four special lectures were also organized in this academic year. The first lecturer was Dr. Eric Fleury, a researcher of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). His lecture on structure-property relationship in metallic glass and some topics on hydrogen application was held in June 12, 2009 at IMR. The next special lecture was held at IMR in July 17, 2009. The lecturers were Prof. Suryanarayana Challapalli (University of Central Florida) and Prof. Baolong Shen (The Chinese Academy of Science). The third special lecture was held in October 26, 2009. The lecturer was Prof. Hosou Chen (Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, USA). More than 40 students and researchers joined and audited the suggestive lectures.
3) Extension lectures organized by the NEDO special course
Seven extension lectures were organized by this NEDO special course and were held in Sendai, Tokyo, Higashi-Osaka and Niigata. The extension lecture in Sendai was held in August 20-21, 2009, at the same time combined with the lecture for the graduate students of Tohoku University. The extension lecture in November 9-10 in Tokyo was held under the auspices of this NEDO special course and Nanotechnology Forum of Waseda University. The extension lectures in Higashi-Osaka were held four times in this fiscal year. Moreover, the extension lecture in Niigata was held in Niigata University in February 19, 2010.
The staff member of the NEDO special course, Prof. A. Makino gave a lecture on magnetic properties of metallic glasses in the extension lectures in Sendai and Niigata. Associate Professor S. Yamaura gave a lecture on hydrogen applications of metallic glasses as an extension lecture in Sendai and Niigata extension lectures.
