英文要約Solid oxide fuel cell is expected to be commercialized because of its higher electrical efficiency data obtained from
laboratory research. But, SOFC has less experiences and data of the operation under actual usage conditions.
In this project, 0.5kW to 10kW class SOFC systems are installed at individual houses or commercial facilities, and the
operational data under actual usage conditions are collected in order to clarify the present technology level of SOFC and the problems to be solved for the commercialization of residential fuel cell system.
This is the 4-year project and FY 2009 is the third year of the project.
In FY2009, 67 units of the SOFC systems were provided from 5 manufacturers and 9 operation companies such as city
gas companies & electric power companies installed and operated the SOFC systems.
R&D results described below are obtained through the evaluation of operation data and the information exchange
and consideration between operation companies and manufacturers.
・Higher electrical efficiency of SOFC system is verified under actual load condition because of the operation data which average electrical efficiency is approx. 35%.
・Total efficiency (heat recovery efficiency plus to electrical efficiency) is over 70% at average. SOFC system is verified
to have superior high efficiency.
・The average amount of primary energy reduction is 772MJ/month per a house, and it is showed to depend on the
amount of electrical demand on household. The average amount of CO2 emission reduction is 105kg-CO2/month per a
house, and it is showed as similar way.
・Insufficient utilization of recovered heat relating to the capacity of hot water storage tank & the system operating mode and the technical subjects to be solved such as components troubles are recognized, and the feedback to the
development for system improvement is executed.
・The longest operation hours reached 18,574 hrs (over 2 year) verifying the durability which is required for the first
stage of demonstration. And, basic performances such as efficiency, load following capacity under actual operating
condition were also verified.

NEF explains the outline of this project and the result of data evaluation utilizing panels and mockup models in some
exhibitions to have the public understood about SOFC system.
