1. Conceptual design of CO2 pipelines: In fiscal 2010 construction methods for the onshore pipeline were selected, and cost reduction possibility was studied for the liquid transportation case where design pressure was raised. 1.1 Design conditions for the pipeline are the same as 2009, and the flow rate for commercial case is 5,280t-CO2/d. 1.2 Same as 2009 study, two cases of pressure range were selected. In Case-1 the inlet pressure is set at 3.5MPa or lower to keep the flow in the gas phase, while in Case-2 (liquid transportation) the outlet pressure of the pipeline is set at the required pressure (10.5MPa) at the well head of the injection system. 1.3 The pipeline route is same as 2009 study. 1.4 Same as 2009 study, the pipeline consists of 16.6km of onshore portion and 108km of offshore portion. The nominal diameters of the pipe are 600mm (24inch) for Case-1, and 300mm (12inch) for Case-2. 1.5 Cost reduction possibility was studied for Case-2 where the pipe size was reduced to 250mm (10inch) by raising the design pressure up to 18.0MPa. Although the construction cost may be reduced by this, the pipe size of 300mm was selected because of the capacity flexibility. 1.6 Semi-spread construction method was selected for most part of the onshore pipeline. 1.7 Offshore production systems for oil and natural gas were reviewed, and it was found that the similar equipment could be used in CO2 pipelines. 2. Social adaptability evaluation and coordination the whole of CO2 transport system: As for the CO2 transport pattern to examine by this project, there are "liquefied CO2 transport by vessels", "an offshore terminal related to transport by vessels", "CO2 pipeline transport", and an examination range is wide. Therefore "CO2 transport system technical committee" was set up and various technical discussions were performed. 2.1 Coordination the whole of CO2 transport system: Research and discussions were performed about economical reasonability in the committee. 2.2 In order to transport CO2 efficiently, the conceptual design of liquefaction facilities / pressurize facilities in the vessel transportation and the pipeline transportation was carried out for commercial case. 2.3 Social adaptability evaluation: Discussion about domestic political needs and economical reasonability for CCS were performed to carry out for social adaptability evaluation.
