英文要約The objective of this technical development project is to develop a biomass fuel production system using the biomass hot press (BHP) forming technique. The project focuses on developing mass production techniques and draw up a business plan.
[Technological development]
1) Creation of a test plant for the mass production of BHP fuels
- We created a test plant for mass production and conducted demonstration tests.
The plant consists of a pretreatment system (smasher and hydrothermal processor) and a liquidation/solidification system.
2) Performances of the formed products produced by the test plant
a. The achieved density of 1.28 is close to the target density 1.35.
b. Shapes of formed products unchanged after 24-48 hours of immersion tests.
c. Successful production of formed products from a variety of biomass materials.
3) Clarification of issues towards the development of a commercial production plant
- Developing techniques to remove steam and water
- Shortening the time to cool the pressurization/solidification device
- Developing techniques for supply to plural pressurization/solidification devices
- Developing techniques for the introduction of biomass boilers and a biomass boiler system
[Market needs]
1) Procurement of biomass materials
a) Pruned branches, etc. (from street plants, parks, landscaping businesses, etc.)
b) Biomass from beverage and beer manufacturers (output biomass: used tea leaves, used coffee beans, wort dregs, etc.)
c) Thinned wood, logging residues, and bamboo grove residues, etc.
2) Demand for BHP fuels
a) Beverage and beer manufacturers
These manufacturers are much interested in using their waste as a material for BHP fuels for resources recycling and due to their necessity to reduce CO2 emissions.
b) Spas, bath houses, hotels, inns, and medical and care facilities
In areas where city gas is not supplied, these are expected to become consumers of BHP fuels though they now use heavy oil boilers.
c) Greenhouse farmers including high-grade fruit farmers
If BHP fuels are supplied stably with a comparative cost advantage, their demand is expected to grow.
d) Local governments' biomass businesses (heated greenhouse, hot-water supply, room heating and pools)
In local communities working for a "low-carbon community"and"biomass town concept"consider biomass fuels as a theme to be tackled .
3) Estimated market size in three prefectures: 7 billion yen or more
In the above industries a) to d) in Shiga, Kyoto, and Osaka Prefectures, it is estimated that there is demand for 290,000 tons of BHP fuels (selling price: 25 yen/kg).
