<1. Active Pump Type Two Phase Heat Transport System> A visualized prototype system was built to study system control, and the basic system control logic was obtained by looking into the system response. The test sample of the heat exchanger was built and evaluated, and the accurate equation for the two phase heat exchanger design was obtained based on the test data of the two phase heat transfer characteristics. Type of liquid pump was selected by considering refrigerant characteristics. Test sample of the impeller was build and evaluated, and confirmed that assumed flow and pressure rise performance could be achieved by selected pump. <2. Passive Pump Type Two Phase Heat Transport System> Flat type evaporator was selected as a potential product type. Numerical model to analyze heat transfer of the evaporator was built, and the form and dimensions of the evaporator was determined to maximize the heat transfer efficiency. Test sample of the evaporator was built, the amount of the heat transport and the heat leak were evaluated, and they were substantially equal to the designed value. Prototype wicks were developed by using the several materials and the manufacturing process, and basic data was obtained about the relations between the fabrication parameters and the wick characteristic. <3. Smart Axial Fan> The test sample of the axial impeller with large size hub was built and evaluated for utilizing the built in controller. The fan performance of the impeller with large size hub was substantially equal to the performance of the small size hub, and the practical design equation for the pressure rise performance analysis was obtained for the impeller with large size hub. Preliminary design was done for the motor and the motor controller, and the downsizing of the fan could be achieved by using the built in controller within the large hub diameter. <4. Trend survey for future Air Conditioning System> Discussion with the American and European airframer were held, and the strong interest was shown in the two phase heat transport system because it confirms to the concept of the more electric aircraft. Information about the development trends of component/system manufacturers were obtained in the several meetings.
