英文要約Title: Project to develop cross-sectoral technologies for IoT promotion / Research and Development of the Innovative Ultra-energy-saving Big Data Infrastructure for Advanced IoT Services (FY2016-2018) FY2017 Annual Report

Reported below are the progress status as of the end of March 2018.

The research group at The University of Tokyo has been working on establishing the software architecture of the limited feature version of the Innovative Ultra-energy-saving Database Engine, following the previous fiscal year. In FY2017, the group finished a design of the engine based on the conceptual design finished in the previous fiscal year, a design of the ultraprecision power-performance model for magnetic disk based Big Data infrastructures, and a design of the scheme of static energy-saving query optimization for the engine. The group also investigated application scenarios of the developing database technologies, following the previous fiscal year’s activity.

The research group at National Institute of Informatics finished has been working on algorithms for image and video Big Data. In FY2017, the group finished a design of the algorithms for searching and updating data structures in database systems for image and video Big Data.

The research group at Hitachi, Ltd. has been working on design and implementation of the limited feature version of the Innovative Ultra-energy-saving Database Engine targeted for enterprise environments. In FY2017, the group finished a design of the detailed scheme of the engine based on the basic scheme finished in the previous fiscal year, a design of the ultraprecision power measurement and control mechanism for commercial storage systems, and a design of the high-level control mechanism with the energy-saving function in the static query compiler. The group also examined potential effectiveness of the engine based on a business operation model from an existing customer, following the previous fiscal year’s activity.

To accelerate research and development, research groups have carried out following activities:
- Holding 3 join steering meetings and 12 joint technical meetings
- Organizing the User Advisory Board Committee composed of executive managers
- Holding a joint intellectual property strategy meeting
- Appointing young researchers for human resources development
- Consolidating experimental equipment to the University of Tokyo for effective utilization
- Negotiation for proposing our new KPI for energy efficiencies of IT services as an international standard has successfully completed
