英文要約While after the Paris Agreement the world goes toward the decarbonization, the Japanese government expressed to go toward realization of the hydrogen society. Based on this background, we planned the project of local production for local consumption of low carbon type hydrogen by gasifying the domestic unused lignite with domestic technology and producing hydrogen to sell it domestically and capturing the CO2 generated in the hydrogen production process to press it into domestic underground using domestic knowledge. This research aims at contribution to early realization of the hydrogen society with low carbon in Japan, to local communities such as local employment promotion, to improvement of energy security in Japan and to similar project assuming overseas expansion and infrastructure export by studying whole supply chain from development of coal mine to transportation of product in order to develop the scheme of the technical and economical feasible project.
Firstly we conducted the market research and the market forecast of hydrogen, ammonia, CO2, methanol and so on in order to decide the project scheme and the project scenario to be studied. Based on the result of the research and the forecast, the product was decided to be hydrogen for FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) and the gasifier capacity was decided to be 200 ton per day of coal consumption. In this case, the amount of the hydrogen production is about 5,000 ton per year and the amount of CO2 production is about 130,000 ton per year. Regarding CO2, it is targeted that about 90% of the CO2 emitted from the plant will be captured. In addition, we selected north area of Hokkaido as the main target of the project site because there is lignite which is appropriate for TIGAR (Twin IHI Gasifier) and there is gas field or aquifer which is assumed to be appropriate for CO2 storage. In this case, we will transport the hydrogen to the consuming area. Though the main target for the project is the hydrogen with low carbon for FCV in Hokkaido, we also intend to target the existing liquefied hydrogen market other than FCV and the area besides Hokkaido since the hydrogen production of 5,000 ton per year is too large to sell out only in Hokkaido. Therefore, we will continue to conduct the hydrogen market research in the area besides Hokkaido. Then in order to decide the plant site and the CO2 storage site concretely, we discussed with the local government and visited the candidates of the site. As the result, we selected two potential coal mines, one plant site and one CO2 storage site as the study target.
Next, the basic design of the plant was studied. We are calculating the heat mass balance of the whole hydrogen production plant after study of the main system flow from feedstock handling system to hydrogen purification system.
