 The project investigates the feasibility of introducing technologies to optimize energy management in both the supply and demand of energy within an industrial park. Specific technologies investigated included both the 'energy demand side’ and 'energy supply side’ optimization technologies. For demand side optimization, energy saving technologies that incorporate Japan's advanced heat source equipment (i.e. heat pumps, centrifugal chillers, etc.) were investigated. Meanwhile, for supply side optimization, the study investigated optimizing the industrial park's power supply by utilizing renewable energies, as well as optimizing the operation of the industrial park’s multiple SPPs(“SPPs” mean Small Power Producers) based on the energy-demand forecasts of plants in the park.

In the study on the energy demand side , this project selected multiple plants of the industrial park as targets.

 In this selection, plants with the best potential of realizing energy-savings through the introduction of heat pumps or cogeneration systems were set as a criterion. More specifically, the targets were mainly industries that consume massive amounts of heat in their production process or have a significant air conditioning load due to requiring a clean room. This plant selection criteria, which also considered interoperation with SPP s and the power grid, was presented to the owner of the industrial park; however, since selection of target plants could not be completed this year, the study has been continued into 2019.

 In the study on the energy supply side, this project chose a typical industrial park in Thailand (hereinafter referred to as "industrial park") as the study target and investigated its current state in terms of energy supply.
 
 A total of five SPPs have been established in the industrial park to meet the power demand of companies there. Companies in the industrial park can be categorized into two types: those receiving electricity from the power grid, and those receiving electricity from SPPs. Receiving-side voltage for both is 115/22kV; however, power is transmitted at 115kV to plants of 10 MW or more, and 115/22kV to all others. Since each SPP was established at a different time, the expiry dates of their purchase agreements with the Electricity Authority also vary. Thus, SPPs established in the early stages of development are now due for an agreement review.
 Thailand's Power Development Plan for 2018 ("PDP") set forth a policy to reduce the Electricity Authority's share of domestic power generation to 24% by 2037, and also renew power purchase agreements between SPPs and the Electricity Authority.
