1.R&D for the authenticity and integrity monitoring(AIM) base that can correspond to the characteristics of the IoT system
In this R&D, we aim at the realization of AIM technology that enables confirmation of the completeness of the whole cyber physical system(CPS) life cycle. In response to the threat of tampering in the supply chain, we aim to enable “Confirmation of Trustworthiness” in CPS and aim for the following development that will drastically improve the security.
(1) A lightweight AIM technology based on a "Base of Trustworthiness" configuration method that can support IoT devices
(2) Collaborative AIM technology that can support scalability and availability required for IoT systems
(3) Vulnerability inspection method against the above AIM technology
In 2018, we analyzed the actual conditions of the devices and systems targeted by this technology and analyzed the threats. Based on this result, R&D scope of this theme was formulated, and the technical requirements to be aimed as the final goal and the phase of "concept design" were completed.
Furthermore, we worked on the examination of an integrated testbed environment that includes (A2), (B2), and (C2) technologies and enables technical evaluation of anomaly events that are difficult to occur in real environments.


2.R&D for lightweight AIM technology that can determine the authenticity of devices that are in operation
In this R&D, we aim at the following development for determining authenticity during operation as well as at startup, for long-term operating IoT devices used in smart factories and smart cities.
(1) Automated whitelist generation technology to minimize cost at development and introduction phase
(2) IoT device-level automatic recovery technology to minimize cost at recovery phase
(3) Accuracy improvement of AIM(expansion of verification item)
In 2018, the above survey has been conducted and the concept has been designed. Specifically, in order to realize AIM of devices in operation, we conducted a technical survey of low-level, ultra-lightweight, medium-level IoT devices with increasing risk due to the adoption of general-purpose technology. Based on the survey results, we investigate technical requirements of the automated the whitelist generation technology, the automatic restoration technology, and the accuracy improvement of AIM. In addition, with regard to the above three technologies, we have analyzed the work flow in the development phase and operation phase of the IoT device, and defined requirements for implementing the technologies as practical tools and services.
