Program Overview
UPP Program Period: FY2025 to FY2037, FY2025 budget: 7.6 billion JPY
The Unicorn Promotion Program in the Green Transformation Field and the Unicorn Promotion Program are initiatives designed to provide support to startups that have completed a certain stage of research and development. These programs facilitate business development activities*1 for commercializing their technologies.
*1 Business development activities:
Investments in commercial equipment and software, in addition to user demonstrations intended to validate the efficacy of the research and development outcomes

Business phases eligible for support
As part of this program, a Request for Information (RFI) will be conducted to gather input regarding the areas of focus, thematic priorities, and types of support to be covered in future public calls. The information provided will serve as a foundational reference in determining the scope of future calls for proposals and will also be utilized by NEDO and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for consideration in planning other support initiatives for startups.

Battery Technology Sector: Development and real-world social implementation of innovative battery technologies that can contribute to the realization of global carbon neutrality and the enhancement of Japan's industrial competitiveness through ambitious goals aimed at reducing CO2 emissions
● Unicorn Promotion Program (UPP)
Medical and Healthcare Sector: Development and real-world social implementation of medical devices and healthcare products that contribute to improved prognoses, early diagnosis, or the prevention and mitigation of lifestyle-related diseases
Smart Agriculture and Biomass Sector: Development and real-world social implementation of smart agricultural technologies or new biomass products that address labor shortages and contribute to increased productivity
