NEDO Prize for New Industrial and Innovative Technologies

Project overview

Project period: FY2023 to FY2024, budget: 600 million yen (planning, operation, and other outsourcing costs and prize money)

In recent years, social issues have become increasingly complex as people's interests and values have diversified with the maturing of the economy and society, and new values and services must be created to meet the diverse demands and empathy of users. In addition, the emergence of new and unprecedented technologies and the advancement of digitalization are driving the convergence of technological fields and transforming them into more complex ones. At the same time, stakeholders in technology are becoming more diverse, including those who own the technology and those who use the technology to create innovations.
In order to solve social issues complicated by diversifying technologies, needs, and values, it is necessary to collect a variety of knowledge from various entities, fuse them, and strongly promote initiatives that can feed back the results obtained to the research field, rather than the linear and gradual research and development that has been done in the past. It is also important to promote appropriate measures to bring new technologies that have never been seen before into social implementation in order to create innovation and return benefits to the public and society by solving social issues.
This program invites a variety of seeds and solutions that contribute to solving technological and social issues through a "contest-style" prize-funded research and development approach. By quickly identifying seeds that will lead to the solution of social issues and the creation of new industries in the future, the program aims to create opportunities for collaboration between prize advertisement applicants and users of the seeds and to lead to joint research in the short term (up to two years).
