Research theme

Development of high-power, continuously operating millimeter-wave generator and its application to deep geothermal heat, etc.

Business Plan

The development of a high-power millimeter-wave generator gyrotron is desired to speed up drilling and reduce costs, which is a challenge for deep geothermal development. This project aims to develop and commercialize a high-power, continuous operation high-frequency millimeter-wave generator, and to accelerate the commercialization of deep geothermal power generation or supercritical geothermal power generation.

Research Outline

This project will work on the development and commercialization of a gyrotron capable of high output and continuous operation and a power source for continuous operation that can be adapted to deep geothermal development by achieving the following.

  • [1] Development of a high output gyrotron and its demonstration test
  • [2] Implementation of continuous operation of the gyrotron and demonstration of its application to geothermal development
  • [3] Cost reduction through simplification of gyrotron design
