Innovation Outlook
Its Purpose and Significance
Innovation Outlook provides a bird’s-eye view of trends in various fields, identifies “frontier areas” that Japan should focus on, and lays the groundwork for TSC to develop an innovation strategy that charts a path from research and development to real-world social implementation in each area.
Our management flow is the foundation for a system that promotes comprehensive, flexible idea development and commercialization in the frontier areas.

Our Approach and Framework
In developing Innovation Outlook, TSC started with a vision of the society we seek to realize and the social challenges that need to be addressed to achieve it. Through a backcasting approach, we then identified the functions/values required to solve those challenges and specified the frontier areas to be pursued.
TSC emphasizes a mission-oriented approach that starts by looking at social challenges. By not relying solely on an approach that is technology-driven, we can consider new functions/values and explore solutions that combine existing functions and technologies with emerging ones, allowing us to respond to societal needs and challenges that are increasingly diverse and complex. Our analysis refers to the MFT® logic model, one of the technology management frameworks developed by Arthur D. Little.
