New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will host a global event titled Global Startup EXPO 2025 at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on Wednesday, September 17 and Thursday, September 18. The event will invite domestic and international startups, particularly in the deep tech sector, along with entrepreneurs and top investors.

1. Purpose of Global Startup EXPO 2025
For the creation of startups that can achieve substantial growth both within and outside their home country, it is essential to globalize the entire startup ecosystem by helping startups expand their business overseas, attracting more capital and human resources from overseas and other similar efforts.
Deep tech startups can make unique contributions to the solution of a range of challenging issues faced by the international community with their innovative technologies and creating new companies and industries that are backed by such technologies has the potential to drive the growth of the Japanese economy.
In particular, the Kansai region is home to top-tier universities, research institutions and global companies that have advanced technologies. These entities are creating a variety of industrial infrastructures and innovations in the region.
In light of these facts, NEDO, METI and JETRO will host a global event titled Global Startup EXPO 2025 at the Exhibition Centre (EXPO Messe “WASSE”), mainly to offer support to deep tech startups and attract more capital and human resources from overseas to Japan.
2. Outline
In response to the expectations placed on startups towards solving global issues, Global Startup EXPO brings together leading investors and entrepreneurs from Japan and overseas, including Mike Collins, founder and CEO of Alumni Ventures and Namba Tomoko of KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation). Under the theme, “Shaping the Future with Startups -Co-creation to Break Through Global Challenges,” keynote speeches, sessions, startup exhibits, startup pitches and networking will be held in relation to the following subthemes: Health and Longevity; Enriched Life; A Society Independent from Population Growth; Co-living with the Earth; and Creating Regulatory Frameworks for Emerging Technologies.
Through these activities, NEDO will provide participants in the event with an opportunity to establish co-creation initiatives with startups and build global partnerships in diverse sectors, while showcasing outstanding domestic and international startups in front of a global audience.
