January 31, 2019
On January 28, 2019, NEDO Chairman Hiroaki Ishizuka gave a keynote speech at the twelfth annual meeting of VerdeXchange, an international environmental conference held in Los Angeles, California.
During his speech, Chairman Ishizuka introduced several demonstration projects being carried out by NEDO in the United States and described activities NEDO is working on together with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry such as the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum, or ICEF, and the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting. VerdeXchange offered an opportunity for Japan and the United States to collaborate on promoting innovation, and provided hope for finding ways to mitigate climate change and achieve United Nations sustainable development goals. In addition, NEDO's activities in the hydrogen field were introduced during a session called "Hydrogen and the Grid." In another session called "Boosting Innovators of a Decarbonized Future," a member of the ICEF steering committee and representatives associated with the ICEF Top 10 Innovations (an ICEF event where examples of innovative technologies are recognized that address energy and climate changes issues) discussed the importance of innovation in addressing climate change.
