Showcase on Future Automated Driving Systems Held in Tokyo

February 15, 2019

On February 6-7, 2019, NEDO and the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan, which are carrying out a project to promote the development of an automated driving system under the Cross-Ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP), held a showcase event in Tokyo on the theme of future automated driving systems and universal mobility. Under the SIP project over the past five years, NEDO and the Cabinet Office have been working to realize an advanced automated driving system that is more user-friendly and reduces traffic accidents and congestion. R&D activities and demonstration testing to address technology-related issues have also been carried out under this project in collaboration with relevant industry, government, and research entities.

The Cabinet Office, in cooperation with relevant government agencies and NEDO in its capacity as a management organization, held this showcase to provide people who will actually use automated driving technology with an understanding of the current and future status of automated driving systems. To foster social acceptance and accelerate implementation of such systems, visitors to the showcase were provided opportunities to experience first-hand the vehicles used in demonstration testing and engage in discussions with engineers and other people involved with practical applications.
