NEDO Participates in India Smart Utility Week 2019

NEDO participated in the internationally acclaimed event called “India Smart Utility Week 2019” held in New Delhi, India, from March 12 to 16, 2019.
This event has been held annually since 2015 and, from this year, the fields of gas distribution and water distribution utilities were added to the smart grid sector, as conference-relevant sectors. More than 2,500 people from 41 countries attended this important gathering which is one of the largest events about the smart city domain in India.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony on March 13, Mr. Takashi Omote, Executive Director of NEDO, emphasized its contributions to the electric power sector in India, resulting from NEDO’s smart grid demonstration project being carried out in Panipat of the State of Haryana in India. Mr. Omote also introduced NEDO’s demonstration projects currently being carried out around the world, which can be applied in India, and expressed his hopes to strengthen Japan-India cooperation so that Japan’s smart community technologies will be introduced and utilized more often in India.
In the afternoon of the same day, NEDO and the Ministry of Power, Government of India, held a joint session, where, in addition to smart grid projects in India, presentations of NEDO’s demonstration projects in third countries relating to highly anticipated technologies for future introduction to India, such as EV buses and cloud-based energy management systems, were made.
At NEDO’s display booth, NEDO introduced its smart community activities including demonstration projects, introduced at the joint session and being carried out around the world. NEDO’s session and display booth attracted many participants with active discussions among Indian visitors, which indicated their great interest in NEDO’s activities.
