Announcement of Japanese Startups Selected to Receive Public/Private Support- Under J-Startup Program -
June 26, 2019
The J-Startup program, jointly administered by NEDO, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), was launched in June 2018 with the goal of creating globally active Japanese startups. Based on recommendations from proven venture capitalists and accelerators as well as from outside experts such as new business developers from large corporations, startups are selected for support under the J-Startup program. Selected startups receive intensive support from government agencies and private sector entities such as large corporations, accelerators, and other organizations, which are known as "J-Startup Supporters."
For the 2019 round of selections announced on June 24, new members were added to the selection review committee which placed emphasis on the following three criteria when selecting the group of 49 startups who will receive support under the J-Startup program: 1. promoting open innovation, 2. expanding overseas, and 3. identifying promising regional startups.
As a supporting member of the J-Startup program, NEDO will continue to work toward enhancing the environment for creating globally active Japanese startups.
