9th NEDO-CDTI Joint Workshop Held in Kitakyushu City
July 9, 2019
On July 8, 2019, NEDO and Spain's Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) held their ninth joint workshop in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, on the topic of next-generation technologies for offshore wind power generation.
As a follow-up to the eighth joint workshop held last year in Bilbao, Spain, this year's workshop also focused on the topic of offshore wind power generation. This year's workshop was supported by the Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, Kitakyushu City, and the Japan Wind Power Association and was held in Kitakyushu City where NEDO's demonstration research for a next-generation barge-type floating offshore wind power system is being carried out. About 90 Japanese representatives and 23 representatives from 16 Spanish companies and organizations participated in the workshop which featured presentations and lively discussions on cutting-edge technologies related to offshore wind power generation in Japan and Spain. After the conclusion of workshop presentations, a matchmaking session took place between Japanese companies and Spanish companies and organizations. During the matchmaking session, which was limited to 90 minutes in duration, discussions took place in a total of 60 slots, which created an opportunity to build relationships between the companies and organizations involved.
In addition on July 9, workshop participants visited NEDO's next-generation barge-type floating offshore wind power generation system located off the coast of Kitakyushu City, and were given the rare opportunity to observe first-hand floating offshore wind power generation facilities. The visit was very meaningful for both Japanese and Spanish officials as well as for representatives of participating Japanese companies.
