September 3, 2019
On August 28, 2019, an opening ceremony was held at the Indonesian Ministry of Industry in Jakarta to commemorate the start of the Demonstration Project to Increase Energy Efficiency Through Utilization of Electric Vehicle and Mobile Battery Sharing.
To address the issue of long charging time, a challenge for electric mobility solutions, this project will employ a system where users of electric motorcycles can share detachable batteries. Under the project, battery usage activity will be monitored by conducting the system that will have centralized control over the operational status of the batteries. The effectiveness of this system, including the optimization of locations for replacement batteries, will be also verified.
At the ceremony, congratulatory remarks were provided by Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesian Ministry of Industry, Director General Harjanto, Indonesian Ministry of Industry, and Mr. Keiichi Ono, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta.
After the ceremony, various kinds of demonstration equipment were operated outside of the Ministry of Industry in order that the ceremony participants could more deeply understand this project. Ceremony participants also engaged in discussions which should help encourage the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
In his remarks, NEDO Executive Director Takashi Omote expressed his hope that the technology and experience obtained through this demonstration project would contribute to the development and dissemination of electric mobility in Indonesia, other Southeast Asian countries, and around the world.
