Chairman Ishizuka Speaks at 16th Annual Meeting of Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum

On October 6, 2019, NEDO Chairman Hiroaki Ishizuka provided remarks and engaged in follow-up discussions at the "Renewable Energy and Management Systems" session which took place during the 16th annual meeting of the STS forum held in Kyoto.

In his remarks, Chairman Ishizuka described the rapid spread of renewable energy sources around the world and the importance of management systems for effective utilization of changing renewable energy sources. In addition, he introduced NEDO demonstration projects and other activities related to distributed energy management systems. Following his remarks, Chairman Ishizuka engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with session participants to consider how best to maximize the use of renewable energy sources. Topics addressed during this discussion included the role of startups, digitalization trends, and real-life examples of disruptive innovation.

On October 7 at the same venue, NEDO Executive Director Toshihiro Mitsuhashi attended the 10th Funding Agency Presidents' Meeting (FAPM) where he described the current situation at NEDO with regard to ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI), and responsible research and innovation (RRI). Executive Director Mitsuhashi also engaged in energetic discussions with the heads of global funding organizations on the development of ELSI/RRI for advanced technology and research programs from the viewpoint of R&D support organizations.
