NEDO Participates in BioJapan 2019
October 17, 2019
From October 9-11, 2019, NEDO participated in the BioJapan 2019 biotechnology industry exhibition held at Pacifico Yokohama.
NEDO’s exhibition booth, which included two areas for microorganisms and plants, introduced the activities and results realized under the NEDO project Development of Production Techniques for Highly Functional Biomaterials Using Smart Cells of Plants and Other Organisms. Known more simply as the Smart Cell Project, it is concerned with the production of useful materials through the utilization of biological functions. In the presentation space of the NEDO booth, researchers developing the latest technologies provided technical presentations.
On October 9, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hideki Makihara visited the NEDO booth during his tour of the exhibition.
On October 11, NEDO held a seminar entitled "Forefront of Plant Biotechnology for Useful Material Production." Professor Toshiya Muranaka of Osaka University provided a keynote speech at the seminar regarding new trends in the production of useful compounds by plant and plant tissue cultures. In addition to presenting the latest results for plant biotechnology research taking place under its Smart Cell Project, NEDO announced the establishment of its new Bioeconomy Promotion Division and outlined prospects for future NEDO projects in this field.
