Ceremony Held to Commemorate Completion of Methane Synthesis Test Facility for CO2 Utilization

On October 16, 2019, in relation to NEDO's project regarding the development of CO₂ utilization technology, INPEX Corporation and Hitachi Zosen Corporation held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of construction of a test facility in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, which will synthesize methane from CO₂ and hydrogen.

By developing technology to synthesize methane from hydrogen and CO₂ collected from the emissions of the coal-fired thermal power plant/etc. this project aims to establish technologies that will reduce CO₂ emissions and curb climate change.

Attendees at the ceremony included NEDO President Hiroshi Oikawa, METI Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Coal Division Director Katsushi Takehiro, INPEX President & CEO Takayuki Ueda, Hitachi Zosen Chairman & President Takashi Tanisho, and other stakeholders.
