Ceremony Held to Commemorate Completion of Methane Synthesis Test Facility for CO2 Utilization

On October 16, 2019, in relation to NEDO's project regarding the development of CO2 utilization technology, INPEX Corporation and Hitachi Zosen Corporation held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of construction of a test facility in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, which will synthesize methane from CO2 and hydrogen.

By developing technology to synthesize methane from hydrogen and CO2 collected from the emissions of the coal-fired thermal power plant/etc. this project aims to establish technologies that will reduce CO2 emissions and curb climate change.

Attendees at the ceremony included NEDO President Hiroshi Oikawa, METI Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Coal Division Director Katsushi Takehiro, INPEX President & CEO Takayuki Ueda, Hitachi Zosen Chairman & President Takashi Tanisho, and other stakeholders.
