NEDO Holds Seminar on Energy System with State of Brandenburg, Germany

On March 4, 2019, NEDO and the Japan Smart Community Alliance held a seminar in Tokyo on the energy system with the state of Brandenburg, Germany.

At the seminar, the project manager for WindNODE, a smart community project being carried out in the northeastern part of Germany, including the state of Brandenburg, as one of five smart energy showcase projects supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and an expert from the Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation (WFBB), a WindNODE partner, introduced future demonstration project plans for utilizing hydrogen and power-to-gas (P2G) technologies with a view to transitioning to a next-generation energy system called "sector coupling" where distributed power sources such as wind and solar power will become the mainstay. Other presentations introduced NEDO's smart community projects taking place overseas and described current trends in Japanese hydrogen and fuel cell technology development.

The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for the approximately 60 participants to exchange views on the activities and latest information of both Japan and Germany.

Approximately 60 persons participated in the seminar which, through presentations and question-and-answer sessions on relevant activities and recent developments in Japan and Germany, resulted in a meaningful exchange of views.
