NEDO Chairman Visits Consortium for Lithium Ion Battery Technology and Evaluation Center (LIBTEC) and Meets Dr. Akira Yoshino, LIBTEC President and 2019 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry

November 13, 2019

On November 8, 2019, NEDO Chairman Hiroaki Ishizuka visited the LIBTEC research and development office and met with Dr. Akira Yoshino, LIBTEC President and recipient of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. LIBTEC is the entrusted entity for NEDO’s project on the development of an all-solid-state lithium-ion battery.

At the LIBTEC office, Chairman Ishizuka and Dr. Yoshino discussed the development of the conventional lithium-ion battery whose prototype was built by Dr. Yoshino and for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize. They also confirmed the status of the all-solid-state lithium-ion battery being developed under the NEDO project and exchanged views on various topics such as future directions for development in this field.

NEDO congratulates Dr. Yoshino for receiving the Nobel Prize and will continue to promote technology development and commercial applications in this field.
