NEDO Holds Second FY2019 Smart Cell Project Technology Seminar

On November 21, 2019, NEDO held a seminar in Tokyo on the topics of building and demonstration testing of platforms for creating smart cells and the production of useful compounds by microorganisms. The seminar included introductions of relevant technologies and case studies of useful enzymes and pigments. More than 100 representatives of companies and other organizations attended the seminar which included a poster session where lively discussions took place, indicating the high level of participant interest.

With a project focus on combining biotechnology and information science and developing design, build, test, and learn (DBTL) workflows, presentations at the seminar introduced basic technologies under development in the project and practical research utilizing various basic technologies. The third FY2019 technical seminar, scheduled to take place at the NEDO Festa in Kansai 2019 event in Osaka on December 18, will introduce basic technologies utilized in conjunction with the improvement of productivity for substances such as useful aromatic compounds and proteins.
