NEDO Holds Meeting to Report on Final Results of Technology Development Project for Robot Commercialization Applications

January 31, 2020

On January 29, 2020, on the occasion of the 26th Promotion Meeting for Industrial Technology organized by the MONODZUKURI Nippon Conference (an organization sponsored by Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Ltd.), NEDO held a meeting at Bellesalle Shinjuku Central Park to report on the final results of its Technology Development Project for Robot Commercialization Applications.

Since fiscal year 2015, in line with “Japan’s Robot Strategy” prepared by the Robot Revolution Realization Council, NEDO has been pursuing technology development under this project targeted at manufacturing and service sectors where robots are not yet being utilized. As a grant project, technology development activities have been carried out which are aimed at expanding the range of industries, sectors, and operations using robots. As an entrusted project from fiscal year 2017, project activities have been focused on developing technologies for “easy-to-use/easy-to-develop” robot platforms.

The meeting was organized to review the project's R&D results thus far and consider prospects for future technology development. Project and sub-project leaders reported on the results of the project and a panel session also took place featuring experts from robot user companies and an AI startup from Silicon Valley, California. Robots developed during the project were displayed at a demonstration area. More than 150 people participated in the meeting, including project participants, robot manufacturers, and potential robot end-users in the food, chemicals, logistics, facilities management, and biotechnology sectors. The wide range of participants enabled a meaningful exchange of views regarding efforts to expand the utilization of robots into new areas.
