NEDO Launches Demonstration Project in Thailand to Optimize Power Plant Efficiency

February 12, 2020

On February 5, 2020, in cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Energy (MOE), NEDO launched the Demonstration Project for improving both reliability and energy efficiency on the existing facilities at the Mae Moh Power Plant owned by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) which means the use of advanced digital solutions that apply the AI and big data analysis technologies.

To solve social issues relating to both economic growth and realizing global warming countermeasures in Thailand and other emerging countries, this demonstration project aims to improve the energy efficiency and reliability of thermal power plants and consequently to improve fuel consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NEDO exchanged the letter of intent (LOI) with MOE, and Marubeni Corporation and EGAT also concluded the Implementation Agreement (IA) which stipulates project conditions for carrying out the implementation.

The IA signing ceremony took place at EGAT’s head office.

EGAT Deputy Governor Nutthavutthi Chamchang and Marubeni Corporation Senior Operating Officer HARADA Satoru signed the IA in the presence of MOE International Affairs Division Director Poonpat Leesombatpiboon and NEDO Executive Director KOBAYASHI Izuru.
