NEDO Concludes Agreement with Fukushima Prefecture to Expand Use of Low-Carbon Hydrogen

On June 19, 2020, NEDO concluded an agreement with Fukushima Prefecture to expand the use of low-carbon hydrogen. The signing ceremony for the agreement took place at the offices of Fukushima Prefecture.

Under this comprehensive agreement, NEDO, which is working on a demonstration project in the town of Namie in Fukushima Prefecture where hydrogen is produced by using renewable energy, and Fukushima Prefecture, which is aiming to be a renewable energy leader by promoting greater use of renewable energy and developing related industries, will collaborate on the use of hydrogen produced from renewable energies and, though this activity, promote research and development and further use of renewable energy.

During his remarks at the signing ceremony for the agreement, NEDO Chairman ISHIZUKA Hiroaki said, "By using hydrogen produced at the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field at various facilities in Fukushima Prefecture, NEDO hopes to make the local community more familiar with hydrogen. In addition, by communicating the significance and benefits of using hydrogen to the public in a way that is easy to understand, NEDO will continue its efforts to make progress toward gradually realizing a hydrogen society."
